Madelia’s Tate Becker, who controlled the mound the majority of the game, scored the winning run in the 6th inning as the Blackhawks beat Red Lake County 11-1 to claim the State Class A Baseball Championship. The senior beat the throw home on Dalton Tatro’s hit to the outfield.
In the game played at Target Field in Minneapolis, Becker struck out 10 and gave up 4 hits for the win. The Blackhawks scored 11 runs on 10 hits.
It’s the first time Madelia has won a state baseball title and the second time the program has reached the state tournament. They finished the year with a 29-3 record.
