Dry conditions expanded across both Minnesota and Iowa during the past week, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday.
In Minnesota, more than 75% of the state is now experiencing some level of drought or abnormal dryness, up slightly from last week. Moderate drought covers about 32% of the state, while severe drought has expanded to nearly 10%. The most significant drought conditions remain centered in parts of central and southwestern Minnesota.
In Iowa, about 61% of the state is classified as abnormally dry, while 26% remains in moderate drought. No severe or extreme drought conditions are currently reported in Iowa. Areas of concern are primarily located across the northern and eastern portions of the state.
Recent rainfall helped improve conditions in some locations, but drought concerns continue as much of the region heads into the summer growing season.
