Minnesota homeowners may be eligible for a one time property tax refund increase and for many, not additional action is required.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue is issuing the one time refund as part of a larger tax bill passes by the state legislature and signed into law in late May. The measure is aimed at combating the rising cost of homeownership.
To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria: You are a Minnesota resident, you must own and occupy your home, you must file your income taxes, and your household income is less than $142,490.
If you have already filed your return, no further action is needed. Eligible homeowners will automatically receive up to a 15% refund later this summer or early fall.
If you have not yet filed, you have until Monday, August 17th to submit your return and still qualify.
