Two Blue Earth residents are facing felony charges after authorities say they stole checks, jewelry and personal information while helping clean out a deceased couple’s estate in rural Faribault County.
Forty year old Cassandra Gimmer and 25 year old Dustin Pierson were charged with identity theft and receiving stolen property following a May 12th investigation in Winnebago. According to the criminal complaint, police stopped a van driven by Gimmer after recognizing Pierson, who had an active felony warrant.
Investigators later searched the vehicle and reportedly found stolen checkbooks, identification documents, jewelry, coins and vehicle titles belonging to six victims. Authorities also recovered a pawn receipt for a gold ring allegedly sold by Gimmer.
Police say Pierson had used the name “Dustin Jakes” while working for a moving company hired to clear out the victims’ family home. The recovered property was valued at more than $1000. Both suspects were charged by summons on May 20th.
