State Rep. Bjorn Olson is being recognized as one of the most effective minority party legislators in the State House.
Olson, who represents District 22A covering Blue Earth, Faribault, Martin and Watonwan counties, ranked first among House Republicans for the 2023-2024 legislative session, according to a new analysis of legislative effectiveness.
Olson earned a State Legislative Effectiveness Score of 0.56, the highest among minority Republicans in the 93rd Minnesota House of Representatives. The score reflects a lawmaker’s ability to advance legislation through the chamber, particularly while serving in the minority party.
During the Biennium, Olson introduced 34 bills. Of those, five advanced beyond the committee stage and one ultimately passed the House.
Olson, who has served in the House since 2021, previously held a leadership role as minority leader. Before his election to the Legislature, he served two terms as mayor of Elmore.
The effectiveness scores are designed to measure legislative productivity and influence, particularly for minority party members who often face additional challenges advancing bills in a chamber controlled by the opposing party.
