The Faribault County Board of Commissioners approved an upgrade to the county’s panic button system during its regular meeting Tuesday, citing the need for faster emergency response times.
County officials said the current system is outdated and has resulted in delayed responses during past incidents. The new system will provide instant notification to the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments without ongoing subscription fees.
The upgrade will cost just over $32,000, with the Sheriff’s Department covering approximately $13,400 of the expense and providing a radio.
Officials noted the system is intended to improve safety for county offices and could be expanded in the future to city halls and schools within the county.
