Faribault County road projects are nearing completion, with most projects working through their final punch lists.
Commissioner Bruce Anderson says additional federal funding expected in 2031 could potentially double the miles of country roads improved. That increase may lead to changes in the county’s five year road plan as road conditions and priorities evolve.
Commissioners also discussed a proposed policy for roadside memorials within the county rights of way. An updated proposal will be presented at a future meeting.
In other business, Commissioners approved a $15,000 classification and compensation study for 2027 through DDA. A similar study three years ago helped bring county wages and benefits more in line with surrounding communities. Since then, the county has seen increased interest in job openings, with some positions attracting 30 or more applicants.
Meanwhile, county insurance costs are projected to increase by about 25%, exceeding the 20% increase included in preliminary budget estimates. Some counties are facing increases of up to 40%.
If the county’s increase exceeds 20%, officials can explore alternative insurance options, although the timeline for making a change is limited.
