A Good Thunder man has been sentenced to five years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon.
Blue Earth County District Judge Gregory Anderson sentenced 36 year old Zachary Hugh Ertman on Tuesday to 60 months at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. He was ordered to report immediately.
According to court documents, DNR Conservation Officers arrested Ertman in September 2025 after responding to a report of a suspicious person in hunting gear in rural Blue Earth County.
Officers determined Ertman did not have hunting license and was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. A search of his truck found a loaded .22 caliber rifle.
Ertman pleaded guilty to the firearm charge in June. He has five previous felony convictions, including a similar hunting related case in 2016.
He also received credit for 19 days already served in jail on a separate misdemeanor theft case.
