The Faribault Count Board of Commissioners approved local option disaster tax abatements for a 12 unit apartment building in Elmore that was damaged by a fire in June.
The fire happened June 23rd and caused an estimated 65% damage to the building. Several apartments were gutted, while smoke and water damage affected the entire property.
The abatements include a $1,399 refund on the building’s 2026 property taxes, along with an estimated $2,900 abatement on the 2027 taxes.
The owner reportedly plans to repair the building rather than tear it down. Commissioners noted the abatements are appropriate since the property could not be fully used as an income producing apartment building for much of the year.
