Iowa’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.2% in July, unchanged from May & June and down from 3.5% a year ago.
Iowa Workforce Development says the number of unemployed Iowans dropped by about 600 last month, while the state’s labor force also declined as roughly 2,800 people left the workforce, mostly due to retirements.
Iowa businesses cut 3,100 jobs in July, with local government accounting for much of the decline as schools entered summer break.
Construction was a bright spot, adding 900 jobs during the month.
Iowa’s unemployment rate remains below the national rate of 4.1%.
