Corn and soybean development continued to advance across Minnesota and Iowa during the week ending July 26th, according to the USDA.
In Minnesota, corn silking jumped to 87%, well ahead of 58% a week earlier and above the 70% five year average. Corn reaching the dough stage increased to 24%, ahead of the 13% average. Corn condition was rated 77% good to excellent.
In Iowa, 87% of the corn crop had reached the silking stage, up from 72% the previous week and ahead of the 80% average. Corn in the dough stage reached 28%, compared with the 25% average. Iowa’s corn condition remained strong at 80% good to excellent.
For soybean, 89% of Minnesota’s crop was blooming, ahead of the 78% average, while 61% was setting pods, well above the 38% average. Soybean condition was rated 78% good to excellent.
In Iowa, 80% of soybeans were blooming, near the 81% average, while 48% had set pods, slightly ahead of the 46% average. Iowa soybeans were rated 78% good to excellent.
