The latest USDA Crop Progress Report shows corn and soybean development continuing to move ahead in both Minnesota and Iowa.
In Minnesota, 58% of the corn crop is silking, up from 28% last week and ahead of the five year average of 44%. Corn in the dough stage reached 12%, compared with the average of 4%. Corn condition is rate 80% good to excellent.
In Iowa, 72% of corn is silking, up sharply from 38% a week ago, while 8% has reached the dough stage. Iowa’s corn is rated 80% good to excellent.
For soybeans, 76% are blooming in Minnesota and 40% are setting pods, with the crop rated 80% good to excellent. In Iowa, 70% of soybeans are blooming, 34% are setting pods and 79% are rated good to excellent.
