A proposed high volage transmission line that would cross southern Minnesota continues to generate concerns among residents and local officials.
Faribault County Commissioner Bill Groskreutz says a recent informational meeting at the Golden Bubble drew between 250 and 280 people interested in learning more about the Power Midwest project, which would run from South Dakota through several southern Minnesota counties and eventually connect near Rochester.
Groskreutz says residents have raised a number of concerns about the proposed route including questions about setbacks, health effects and effects on livestock. Groskreutz adds that county officials are working with neighboring counties along the proposed route to share information and address questions from residents.
While commissioners can advocate for residents, Groskreutz notes local governments do not make the final decision on the project’s route. The final decision will be made by the Public Utilities Commission.
Groskreutz encourages residents with concerns to contact their county commissioners and participate in the state review process as the project moves forward.
