The U.S. Department of Agriculture is now accepting nominations for farmers and ranchers interested in serving on local Farm Service Agency County Committees.
FSA Administrator Bill Beam says local producers play a vital role in helping shape how federal farm programs are administered in their communities. County committee members help make decisions involving disaster assistance, conservation programs, commodity and price support programs and other agricultural issues.
Producers may nominate themselves, another eligible producer or to be nominated by a qualifying organization. To be eligible, candidates must participate or cooperate in a USDA program and reside in a Local Administrative Area that is up for election this year.
More than 7,700 agricultural producers serve on FSA county committees nationwide. Members serve three year terms.
Nomination forms must be postmarked or received by the local USDA Service Center by August 3rd. Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters in November.
More information and nomination forms are available through local FSA Offices or at the USDA Farm Service Agency website.
