Corn and soybean crops across Minnesota and Iowa remain in good shape as the growing season moves into mid-June, according to the latest Crop Progress and Condition Report released Monday by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
In Minnesota, corn emergence reached 97%, matching last year’s pace and running ahead of the five year average of 94%. Iowa corn emergence was also 97%, up from 96% a year ago and equal to the state’s five year average.
Crop conditions remain favorable in both states. Minnesota’s corn crop was rated 81% good to excellent, including 18% rated excellent. Iowa reported 79% of its corn crop in good to excellent condition, with 18% receiving an excellent rating.
Soybean planting is nearly complete in both states. Minnesota producers had planted 99% of the soybean crop, while Iowa farmers reported 98% planted. Soybean emergence reached 91% in Minnesota and 95% in Iowa, both ahead of their respective 5 year averages.
Minnesota’s soybean crop was rated 80% good to excellent, with 13% receiving an excellent rating. Iowa soybeans were rated 77% good to excellent, including 15% rated excellent.
