The Blue Earth City Council approved the low bid Monday night for the South Linton Area Street and Utility Improvement project, moving forward with a major infrastructure overhaul on the city’s south side.
Council members awarded the contract to GM Contracting, Inc., which submitted the lowest bid at $6,129,786.85. The bid came in below the engineer’s estimate of approximately $6.51 million.
The project includes full street reconstruction on portions of Linton Street, 9th Street, 8th Street, 7th Street and 6th Street. Planned utility improvements include water main reconstruction along Nicollet Street from 10th Street to 4th Street, a sanitary sewer extension on 14th Street, and storm tile improvements south of 10th Street.
The council also approved a task order agreement with Bolton & Menk, Inc. for construction engineering services tied to the project.
Under the agreement, Bolton & Menk will provide administration, construction observation and construction staking services during construction. City documents estimate those services will cost about $330,000 per construction season, for an estimated total of $660,000 over two construction seasons.
