Faribault County voters will head to the polls on Tuesday for a special election that will determine how the County Recorder position is filled in the future.
The election comes after longtime Recorder Sherry Asmus retired at the end of 2024, creating a vacancy that allows the county to consider changing the roll from elected to appointed under state law.
Voters will be asked to decide whether the position should remain an elected office or transition to an appointed role overseen by the County Board.
Commissioners say the timing is driven by state guidelines, which limit when special elections can be held and require the question to be decided before the next regular filing period.
The outcome of the election will determine not only how the position is filled moving forward, but also how the office is managed and overseen in the years ahead.
Blue Earth residents are reminded that the new polling location for them is in the Council Chambers are Blue Earth City Hall.
Polling locations across Faribault County will be open from 7am to 8pm tomorrow, with the exception of Brush Creek, Emerald and Seely Townships, which will be open from 10am to 8pm.
