The Center for Specialty Care in Fairmont officially closed on Tuesday after 36 years of caring for patients in the Fairmont area.
The decision was not an easy one for Dr. Corey Welchlin to make. He says that changes in the local healthcare scene have impacted his practice as Sanford and Avera have done a better job with their orthopedic referrals. He also cites Obamacare and COVID as factors that contributed to the decline in business.
Welchlin says that COVID hit especially hard, as elective procedures, including many of the operations that have been done at the Center for Specialty Care, could not be done, only emergency surgeries.
Welchlin adds that while the Fairmont location may be closed, The Center for Specialty and Primary Care in Buffalo Center is staying open and is doing well. Welchlin says he hopes to grow it in the coming years.
The phone number for the Fairmont location will forward to the Buffalo Center location, ensuring that patients calls will still be answered five days a week.
