Producers in Faribault County have a limited window to enroll land in the federal Conservation Reserve Program’s general sign up, now open through April 17th.
Faribault County FSA Executive Director Nicki Miranowski says the general CRP sign up began March 9th and operates as a nationwide competitive bidding process. Landowners work with FSA staff to develop a bid for enrolling eligible acres and then decide whether to accept that amount or lower it to improve their chances of acceptance.
Once the sign up period closes, all offers from across the country are ranked. A cutoff line is then established, with higher ranked offers accepted and those below the line denied.
FSA officials emphasized that general CRP enrollment is highly specific to each parcel of land, with multiple factors considered in the scoring process. Producers are encouraged to review fact sheets available at farmers.gov and schedule an appointment with their local office to discuss options.
Appointments are required for general CRP applications due to the detailed nature of the process. Producers interested in enrolling land are encouraged to contact the Faribault County FSA office before the April 17th deadline.
