A Blue Earth man has been sentenced after being convicted of felony theft following an investigation by the Blue Earth Police Department.
Court records show 53 year old Michael Dean Olivo was convicted Monday in Faribault County District Court of one count of theft – taking, using or transferring movable property without consent, involving property valued between $1,001 and $5,000.
The conviction stems from offenses that occurred between September 1st, 2022 and April 6th, 2024 at American Legion Post 89 in Blue Earth. The theft charge was amended in July 2025. Earlier versions of the charge alleged higher property values and theft of corporate property, but those were amended prior to conviction. A second felony count of forgery was dismissed.
According to sentencing documents filed in the Minnesota Fifth Judicial District Court, Olivo was sentenced to 12 months and one day at the Minnesota Correctional Facility – St. Cloud. The prison sentence was stayed for five years, meaning he will not serve the prison terms unless he violates probation.
As part of the sentence, Olivo was ordered to serve one day in the Faribault County Jail, with credit for one day already served. He was also placed on supervised probation for five years under the Minnesota Department of Corrections – Field Service.
In addition, the court ordered Olivo to pay $47,294.80 in restitution.
