United Hospital District CEO Rick Ash is retiring after nearly 11 years leading the organization and more than 35 years in rural healthcare leadership.
The UHD Board of Directors announced Ash’s retirement Friday, crediting him with helping strengthen and grow healthcare services across the region. During his tenure, UHD expanded its provider base and specialty services, increased access to care in Fairmont and Wells and completed multiple capital improvement projects.
The hospital also transitioned to a unified electronic health record system through Epic Systems, invested in new technology including robotic assisted surgery and navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Board President Bill Barke said Ash’s leadership was rooted in collaboration and helped position UHD as a strong, independent rural healthcare provider.
The board has launched a formal search for the organization’s next CEO. Ash will assist with the transition before officially retiring.
