The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office has restricted all vehicle traffic on Bass Lake due to open water and unsafe ice conditions.
The restriction in effect applies to all vehicles, including cars, trucks, ATVs and snowmobiles.
Officials say the decision was made because of poor ice conditions on the lake. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor and will allow vehicle traffic to resume once the ice is deemed safe.
Public safety remains the Sheriff’s Office’s top priority. Residents are urged to follow Minnesota Department of Natural Resources ice thickness guidelines before venturing onto the ice. Those guidelines recommend staying off ice under four inches thick and noting that thicker ice is required for vehicles.
The Sheriff’s Office also reminds the public to tell someone where they are going and when they expect to return before heading out onto the ice.
