The Fairmont City Council is moving closer to filing a leadership gap after another special meeting focused on the city administrator position.
The city has been without a full time administrator since November 2024 and without an interim administrator since November of this year. No acting administrator has been appointed during this time.
Council members were told outreach to potential interim candidates through the League of Minnesota Cities and a consulting firm produced limited results, though additional interest has recently been expressed.
The council discussed several options, including interviewing interested candidates and appoint an acting city administrator. Members unanimously approved moving forward with interviews for two individuals who have expressed interest.
The council also decided not to pursue a potential interim candidate through the consulting firm MGT, citing cost concerns.
The council unanimously approved steps to consider appointing Finance Director Paul Hoye as acting city administrator. Hoye had previously declined the role but has since indicated he is open to considering it.
Council members Jay Maynard and James Kotewa were appointed to work with HR Director Rachel Viesselman on negotiations with Hoye.
