Minnesota’s soybean industry is being represented on a trade mission to Europe as state leaders work to strengthen ties with two of the region’s largest economies.
Minnesota Soybean Growers Association President Darin Johnson is with Gov. Tim Walz, Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen and business and commodity leaders through November 21st on a tour of Switzerland and Germany.
The delegation will make stops in Zurich, Dusseldorf and Berlin, focusing on expanding exports, attracting business investment and strengthening trade partnerships. Meetings will include visits with the German Farmers Association, Germany’s Ministry of Agriculture, the Council of Foreign Affairs and a Cargill facility. The agriculture group will also tour the headquarters of Syngenta and Buhler in in Switzerland.
Germany and Switzerland are both major export destinations for Minnesota products, with Germany ranking eights in 2024 and Switzerland 22nd. Germany is also one of the top global markets for U.S. soybeans, importing more than $1 billion annually.
