North Union’s Swea City building and their Fenton campus are being recognized among the best Elementary and Middle Schools in Iowa by US News and World Report.
The rankings were released this week after the publication announced their list of top high schools in the state back in September.
The district’s Swea City campus is ranked as the 2nd best elementary school in the state, behind Hopewell Elementary in Bettendorf, while the campus near Fenton is ranked 7th.
The publication notes the Swea City campus, which serves around 140 students, has a math proficiency rate of 95% and a reading proficiency of 87%. The math proficiency numbers placed the Swea City campus in a tie for 4th best out of 601 schools, while the reading numbers tied for 21st. The Fenton campus reported similar proficiency rates in Math and slightly lower numbers in reading.
The publication ranked the West Bend-Mallard Elementary as the 28th best in the state, Lucia Wallace Elementary in Algona checked in at #88, while the North Iowa Elementary in Buffalo Center was ranked 94th.
The North Union Middles School in Swea City was also ranked in the top 10, checking in at #8, with reading and math scores in the top 20 of over 330 schools in the state.
