Boelter Window and Siding has officially gone out of business and now some of its customers are left wondering where their money went.
Boelter Window and Siding was a local contractor for the Mankato area since 1990. In an email to customers on August 29th, the company announced it would be going out of business and was filing for bankruptcy.
The difference is that some customers have already paid the company for future work, work that can no longer be done and money that will not be refunded.
Some customers are now stuck in a jam as much of that money came from insurance claims and needs to be spent on the specific project within a set time period. To get the project started with a new contractor, the money needs to be paid up front, but the customers no longer have the money.
A fund through the Minnesota Department of Labor looks to reimburse residents for losses suffered through fraudulent contractors, which is a route many affected customers are now pursuing.
Some Boelter customers says they have filed police reports and now it’s up to the Mankato City Attorney as to whether or not criminal charges will follow.
