The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending September 7th. Disease pressure in row crops remained a concern to producers. Field activities included cutting and bailing hay and harvesting corn silage.
In Minnesota, 94% of corn has reached the dough stage, corn in the dent stage reached 61% and 14% of corn has matured. Corn condition was rated 73% good to excellent, the same as a week ago.
Iowa corn in the dough stage or beyond reached 97%, 80% of the corn crop reached the dent stage or beyond and 26% of corn has matured. Corn condition was rated 75% good to excellent, a 4% drop from last week.
Minnesota soybeans setting pods was at 99%, with 14% of soybeans dropping leaves. Soybean condition was rated 75% good to excellent, a 2% increase from a week ago.
Iowa soybeans setting pods reached 98%, soybeans coloring advanced to 44% and 11% of soybeans were dropping leaves. Soybean condition was rated at 76% good to excellent, a 1% decline from last week.
