CMT Music Awards And MTV Europe Music Awards Both Put On Hold For 2025

In preparation for Paramount Global’s major merger, MTV and CMT will be pausing several significant awards shows in 2025, including the CMT Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), and MTV Latin America’s MIAW Awards. Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico will also be on hold. This decision, announced in a memo by Paramount Global exec Bruce Gillmer, aims to reevaluate and enhance future event offerings. Despite the pause of these shows, events like MTV’s Video Music Awards and Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards in the United States remain unaffected. The move, likely influenced by the impending merger with Skydance Media, underscores a shift in Paramount’s events strategy. The announced pause on the CMT Music Awards is especially notable, with the show’s roots dating back to 1967 when it was known as the Music City News Awards.
