The American Red Cross is encouraging residents across southern Minnesota to donate blood during March and April as part of Red Cross Month, highlighting the ongoing need for lifesaving blood products.
Blood and platelet donors help patients who rely on transfusions every day. Last year alone, the Red Cross welcomed about 18,000 first time donors in the Minnesota and Dakotas Region. The region is among the top blood collecting areas in the country, gathering roughly 220,00 donations annually.
To encourage participation, the Red Cross says all successful blood, platelet and plasma donors during March will receive a free A1C screening, a test used to identify diabetes and prediabetes. The screening adds to other health information donors typically receive during their donation.
Upcoming Blood Drives include;
March 16th – Fairmont, St. John Vianney Catholic Church
March 17th – Winnebago, Community Center
March 23rd – Wells, Wells Community Center
March 30th – Elmore, Shiloh Lutheran Church
April 8th – Blue Earth, Blue Earth Area High School
April 8th – Truman, Truman High School
People interesting in donating blood can scheduled an appointment through the Red Cross Website or by using the Red Cross donor app.
