The Fairmont City Council has approved changes to an employment offer for a candidate being considered for interim City Administrator.
Council members met Monday to review requests from candidate Jason Baker, who asked for several adjustments to the initial offer the city made in February.
The council agreed to provide Baker with 80 hours of vacation upon hire, matchin what a previous City Administrator received when starting the job.
Members also approved a revised severance schedule if Baker were to be terminated: two months of salary and benefits withing the first six months , three months between 6 and 12 months and four months between 12 and 24 months.
Some council members expressed concerns about offering severance for an interim role, while others said the request was reasonable given the risks involved in taking the position.
Both changes ultimately passed on split 3-2 votes.
