The United South Central School District continues discussions about a possible building expansion. About 120 community members recently attended a facilities meeting in Wells to review enrollment trends, space needs and two preliminary expansion concepts.
USC has grown by roughly 100 students over the past decade and is projected to add about 50 more in the coming years. Superintendent Taylor Topinka says the district is also seeing positive birth rates, a trend not common across the rest of Faribault County.
District Officials reviewed potential tax impacts, noting the current building will be paid off in the coming years, which could help offset costs.
At least one more community meeting is planned this spring as discussions continue.
