The Blue Earth Area School Board approved several action items during its meeting Monday night, including committee appointments, agreements and personnel updates.
The board approved its committee assignments for the current year, with memberships remaining the same as last year. Members also approved an instructional staff sharing agreement with Southern Plains Education Cooperative to provide speech services.
Board members adopted a required annual resolution directing its administration to make recommendations for possible reductions in programs and positions. Superintendent Mandy Fletcher emphasized the approval is routine and does not signal any planned reductions, noting the district remains in a healthy financial operating position.
In addition, members accepted “Bucky Bag” donations from McDonald’s McTeacher Night and first grade teachers to support student programming.
The board also approved several personnel items, including the hiring of Ariana Schaffer as a paraprofessional and Jack Melstrom as an elementary teacher. Melstrom was added to the fourth grade team as enrollment numbers continued to grow. Long term substitute teachers Liam Boettcher and Esther Nelson were also approved.
Finally, the board approved lane changes for several staff members who completed additional education and coursework, including Sarah Albright, Ann Crofton, Lindsey Norman and Christine Hodges.
