State Representative Peggy Bennet from Albert Lea announced she is running for Minnesota Governor in 2026, joining a crowded Republican field.
Bennett, a former teacher of 33 years, is a six term legislator representing Freeborn County and parts of Faribault, Waseca and Steele counties. She currently serves as co-chair of the House Education Policy Committee and has served on Veterans and Military and Education Finance Committees.
Bennett says she is running to move the state past partisan gridlock, emphasizing collaboration and solutions over political infighting. She says her campaign will focus on addressing issues such as education, crime and fraud with what she calls practical, results driven leadership.
