Faribault County Commissioners have approved the county’s property tax levy for the coming year, setting an increase of 3.99% following several budget work sessions.
The increase is intended to maintain services while remaining below the statewide county average of roughly 8.5%. Late adjustments, including revised highway department equipment costs, helped lower the final levy.
The county’s total levy is $17.45 million, with the general fund receiving just over $10.4 million to cover most county operations. Public works accounts for more than $2.5 million and Human Services totals about $3.23 million. Human Services funding remains challenging due to delayed state and federal reimbursements, requiring the use of reserves.
The county library levy is $195,000 and debt service, mainly for the Law Enforcement Center, totals just over $1 million, with two years remaining on the bond.
After factoring in more than $900,000 in state program aids, the county’s final levy stands at $16.54 million.
