Blue Earth is among 26 Minnesota cites receiving new state funding for water infrastructure upgrades, as the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority announced $91.7 million in loans and grants statewide.
Blue Earth will receive $2.49 million to replace about 134 lead service lines with new copper lines, part of a larger effort to remove nearly 1000 lead lines in 15 communities.
State officials say the funding helps cities modernize aging systems and ensure safe, reliable drinking water. MPFA Chair Matt Varilek said the investments strengthen public health and local economies, while Executive Director Steve Walter called the work essential for long term community prosperity.
Other major projects funded include a $28 million investment in St. Paul’s new McCarrons water treatment plant, nearly $10 million for PFAS removal in Hastings, and upgrades in cities such as Fridley, Brewster, Rochester and St. Cloud.
Since its creation in 1987, the MPFA has provided nearly $7.4 billion for water and infrastructure projects across Minnesota.
