The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors is preparing to extend its moratorium on large scale solar projects, which is currently set to expire December 31st.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Board Chair Carter Nath said supervisors couldn’t move forward with setting a public hearing date for anew solar ordinance because the county still needs to complete several required procedural steps, a process he says will take longer than the few weeks left in the year.
Supervisor Howard Haas said he’d like to finalize the ordinance as quickly as possible, but agreed more time is needed.
The board is expected to officially vote next week to extend the moratorium through the end of March. Supervisors first approved a nine month pause on large scale solar development in October 2024, then extended it this summer to run through the end of 2025.
