Blue Earth Area School District leaders are restarting community outreach as they work on long term facility needs. Superintendent Mandy Fletcher says the process began in 2023, when the district discovered a major plumbing failure at the K-7 building. It was found that the amount to completely fix the plumbing issue exceeded the funds available.
Following the discovery the district sent out a survey in the fall of 2023 to about 3700 households in the district. Using the survey results, the district put together a proposal for updates at the High School building and a new K-7 building to be built at the high school site. A referendum for the project was on the ballot in the fall of 2024.
After the failed building referendum in 2024, the District completed a full facility assessment to identify repairs and costs. Fletcher says the next step is making sure residents understand the findings and the reality of the condition of both the K-7 and High School buildings as the district plans future options.
District leaders will meet with City Councils, Township Boards, County Officials and Local Groups beginning early next year.
