The detour on Highway 22 between Mankato and St. Peter is set to lift by 4pm Monday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Highway 22 has been closed since April for the first year of a two year construction project. MnDOT says drivers may still see minor impacts over the winter as crews finish wrap up work.
This year’s improvements include a new roundabout near Kasota, an acceleration lane north of Mankato, new turn and passing lanes, bridge repairs and upgraded lighting.
Construction will resume in the spring of 2026, focusing on the middle section of the highway and the Rabbit Road Bridge.
MnDOT also began preparations for a future walking and biking trail between Mankato and St. Peter, though the trail and underpass remain closed.
The project is led by Mathiowetz Construction under a $36.9 million contract.
