The Blue Earth City Council met on Monday and at their meeting they reached an agreement with New Chances Humane Society to handle the impoundment and care of stray dogs and cats. New Chances will reserve a dedicated kennel for city animals and provide 24/7 facility access for drop offs. The organization will also serve as the City’s primary animal control service, responding to capture and transport calls, though the City may use another provider if New Chances cannot respond within six hours.
The City will pay $350 a month for the reserved kennel, plus daily care fees of $20-$30 for dogs and $15-$20 for cats, depending on how long they are held. Animal control calls will cost $35 per hour.
Both sides will follow established impound procedures and comply with the state and local animal care laws.
