The Faribault County Commissioners met on Tuesday and held a public hearing during their regular meeting on a local option sale tax for road and bridge improvements.
After the hearing, the board voted to approve a half cent sales tax increase.
Commissioner Tom Loveall says this increase has a specific purpose; road and bridge improvements and projects, not maintenance.
Lovall adds that road conditions are a top concern to residents and the sales tax can’t be syphoned off to other projects and there is already a list of projects that the money will be used for.
The half cent local option sales tax increase will take effect January 1st.
