The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office says it continues to investigate the shooting death of 45-year-old Joshua Petersen in rural Alden on September 24.
Authorities reported that Joshua Petersen was at the home of his parents, 71-year-old Dave and 69-year-old Shari Petersen without permission. Investigators say after hiding in one of the outbuildings, Joshua Petersen attacked his mother, Shari, with a metal pipe, then used the same weapon to assault his father, Dave, and brother, 47-year-old Jason Petersen.
After striking Jason with the metal pipe, law enforcement says Joshua took him to the ground where he was punching Jason in the face repeatedly before Dave Petersen shot Joshua to stop the attack.
Jason called 911 after regaining his footing, and Shari also contacted emergency services to check on the children inside the house.
The Sheriff’s Office says Dave, Shari, and Jason Petersen were cooperative with law enforcement and first responders.
