Iowa’s labor force grew in August with an addition of 1,900 people, primarily adults ages 20 to 24. This increase brought the state’s labor force participation rate to 67.5%, according to Iowa Workforce Development (IWD)
Despite this growth, Iowa’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.8%. The number of working Iowans reached 1,673,500 in August, marking a rise of 1,100 from July and 13,200 from the previous year.
IWD says in August, Iowa establishments gained 3,600 jobs, bringing total nonfarm employment to 1,594,600.
Over the past year, health care and social assistance added 4,600 jobs, leading all sectors, while construction saw a significant increase of 3,800 jobs. However, manufacturing faced the largest annual job losses, down 5,300 positions.
