The second reading for the ordinance authorizing charges for emergency services was held at the Blue Earth City Council meeting on Monday.
The ordinance that passed unanimously allows the city to put any unpaid charges for emergency services outside of the city limits, but still within the service district, on property taxes as assessments if not paid within 90 days of the issuance of the billing to the property owner.
The city can declare the unpaid amounts as a special assessment against the property where the service call originated, to be added to the property taxes the following year.
