The Blue Earth City Council met on Monday and took on the subject of having a police officer being in attendance for all meetings the council holds.
Earlier this year, the council had determined that the presence of an officer was not needed in the, new more secure city hall, but after the shooting deaths of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, Councilman John Huisman brought the issue back to the council’s attention saying that an officer is needed at meetings.
After a lengthy discussion, the council voted unanimously to have an officer present at all future council meetings, including work sessions, special and closed session meetings.
With this approval, the council will be giving the option to all other city boards, commissions and committees to have an officer present at their meetings as well.
