The Blue Earth City Council met on Monday and received an update from the Housing and Redevelopment Authority on the tiny home proposal. The HRA is still working on the financing for the project.
The potential financing options to explore include HRA Redevelopment Project, Economic Development TIF, possible state appropriation, grant funding through MN Housing and also the possibility of bonding for the project.
After these options were presented, there were concerns raised as to whether or not there’s a need for a tiny home village in the city. Factors cited were the cost and concerns if they would actually all be rented.
At the end of the nearly 20 minute discussion, Mayor Rick Scholtes asked the council if the HRA should keep looking into the financing options or if they should scrap it.
The council then voted 4-3 for the HRA to continue exploring the financing options.
In other business, the council unanimously approved the request from the Blue Earth American Legion member Loren Eckhardt to place 7 small flags along the north side of Leland Parkway in honor of veterans on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11th.
