A Mapleton man recently received a stayed prison sentence and was ordered to pay more than $100,000 in restitution related to tax evasion.
Sixty seven year old Terrance Lee Roberts was convicted on a felony failure to file taxes charge in Blue Earth County District Court and a second charge against him was dismissed.
A criminal complaint filed in October 2023 alleged Roberts didn’t pay taxes over an extended period, possibly dating back to at least 2006, despite the Minnesota Department of Revenue sending him 59 letters about owed money.
Roberts reportedly told investigators he received the letters but hadn’t set aside money to pay the taxes. Tax forms reviewed by investigators showed a reported gross income of $1.49 million between 2017 and 2022, according to the complaint, although Roberts suggested his take home pay was about $50,000 per year.
His one year, one day prison sentence will be stayed for three years, during which time he’ll be on supervised probation. Roberts will also pay restitution totaling $112,746.
