The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending September 1st. Field activities included chopping corn for silage and harvest of small grains, sugar beets and potatoes in Minnesota and in Iowa, activities included hay cutting and preparing for harvest.
In Minnesota, corn in the dough stage was 86%, 6 days behind average, and 35% of corn was in the dent stage, with 7% mature. Minnesota corn was rated 63% good to excellent, a 3% increase from last week. Iowa corn was 94% in the dough stage or beyond, 61% has reached the dent stage, 1 day behind average, 10% was mature and 77% was rated good to excellent, the same compared to last week.
Soybeans in Minnesota are 92% setting pods, 15% are coloring and 1% are dropping leaves. Soybean condition increased 3% from last week to 66% good to excellent. In Iowa, soybeans were 95% setting pods, 18% of soybeans were turning color, 2 days behind average, with 2% dropping leaves. Iowa’s soybean condition remained the same as last week at 77% good to excellent.
