B.E. Council Approves New Hires for Liquor Store and Waste Water Plant

The Blue Earth City Council met Tuesday and at the meeting approved the hiring of Smanatha Archer and Katelyn Kluender as part time liquor store employees and approved the hire of Jadrian Irwin as a Class A wastewater operator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

However, the Council didn’t approve everything on the consent agenda as they denied the Fire Department’s travel request to the Minnesota State Fire Department Annual Conference and Fire School to be held in Mankato later this month.

The total amount being sought by the fire department was $2,861.44 for four members of the department to attend.  Lodging was listed at $960 for the two night stay, milage listed at $289.44, a meal allowance of $512 and a registration fee of $1,100, with the possibility of getting that money back as it’s eligible for MBFTE reimbursement.

The council voted 4-3 to deny the request for reimbursement.  Council members noted their reasoning for the no vote was due to the request not being detailed enough, the form was not turned in in a timely fashion and it was also turned in past the registration deadline of August 15th.
