USDA Releases 2021 Year End Corn and Soybean Summary for MN & Iowa

Corn for grain production in Minnesota for 2021 was estimated at 1.4 billion bushels, according to the USDA’s end of year summary.  Production for 2021 was down 3% from the previous year’s 1.43 billion bushels.

Minnesota’s corn yield was estimated at 178.0 bushels per acre.  Area harvested for grain was estimated at 7.84 million acres, 330,000 acres more than 2020.

Soybean production for 2021 was estimated at 356 million bushels, down 3% from last year’s 369 million bushels.

The soybean crop yielded 47.0 bushels per acre.  Harvested acreage was 7.58 million acres, up 200,000 acres from 2020.

In Iowa, the USDA report that corn for grain production was estimated at 2.55 billion bushels, up 12 percent from the previous year’s 2.28 billion bushels.

Iowa’s corn yield was estimated at 205.0 bushels per acre, setting a new state record.  Area harvested for grain was estimated at 12.5 million acres, 450,000 acres below 2020.

Soybean production was estimated at 622 million bushels last year, up 23% from last year’s 506 million bushels. 

Iowa’s soybean crop yielded 62.0 bushels per acre.  Harvested acres was 10.0 million, up 660,000 acres from 2020.
