Elmore Man Who Pleaded Guilty to Assaulting a Woman and Holding Her Captive, Sentenced to Prison

An Elmore man charged with assaulting a woman and holding her captive at his home will serve time in prison.

Fifty six year old Michael Hinton, of Elmore, was sentenced Monday in Faribault County District Court in connection with the 2019 assault.

The victim, who had met Hinton on one occasion prior to the incident, went to his home where they used methamphetamine, according to court documents.  When the woman tried to leave, Hinton threatened her with a knife and them assaulted her.

The woman escaped after Hinton left to get more methamphetamine.

Hinton pleaded guilty to felony assault with a dangerous weapon in April.  Kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct charges were dismissed.

Judge Michael Trushenski sentenced Hinton to seven years in prison.

Hinton was given credit for two years already spent in custody, including a six month civil commitment for drug addition.

He will be eligible for parole in December 2023.
